BOARD ENDORSES COMMERCIAL USE OF TENNIS COURTS
On August 21, 2014, the Sports Committee met. Its minutes include the following:
"At this point, Jerry Kortenber recused himself and exited the meeting for the following discussion. We retained a quorum [Tom Iceman participated by phone]. The remaining committee members discussed a proposal that had been drafted regarding the existing Isles tennis program. The purpose of this proposal was to retain the existing program structure facilitated by Jerry Kortenber. A motion was made and seconded adopting the proposal and providing for it to be submitted to the Board for reiew (sic), disussion and approval. The motion passed unanimously with Jerry Kortenber not voting. John [Savage] said that he would include it in the request to the board for an earlier meeting."
On October 23rd, the Board of Directors instructed the Property Manager to implement the tennis program "according to the recommendations of the Sports Committee."
Disturbingly, the actual "proposal" was never reduced to words in the minutes of the Sports Committee, nor in the Board discussion. It would appear that the recommendation of the Sports Committee was to reaffirm the "arrangement" previously agreed to by a previous non-resident board in which Kortenber was allowed to use the courts for giving commercial instruction to non-residents. This concession had been granted in exchange for services to residents that include organizing clinics and tournaments.
